Primary Care Performance Metrics |

Because public information about health care quality is important and can be used in making personal health care decisions, MVP shares health care performance information with members via the MVP Web site.
MVP provides information on Pediatrics, Family Practice and Internal Medicine specialties for Vermont and the Eastern, Mid-Hudson, Central, and Western, New York regions.
MVP measures performance at the group practice level in order to have more members available for measurement, making the data more meaningful. Practices with at least 300 MVP members are included; individual practitioners may be included if they meet the volume criteria. In comparing data across medical groups, please consider that variations in patient conditions and severity may be a factor in reported performance.
Each medical group’s performance is compared to MVP HMO averages and MVP goals. If there is more than one physician in the same medical group, their scores were combined and reported under the medical group name. In an effort to ensure data that is statistically sound, we report on as many occurrences as possible based on the physician’s panel size.
Some measures are obtained from data we receive from claims; we also rely upon data obtained directly from medical records to increase reliability. Despite these precautions, there may be a slight margin of error. Because quality measures shown in these reports reflects only a portion of the care provided by the physicians within these groups, we encourage members to confer with their existing physician as well as other resources before making decisions about care.
We solicit feedback from both physicians and members to help us clarify existing reports and to develop future reports. Please send your questions or comments to MVP’s Quality Improvement Department Email: dchambers@mvphealthcare.com. Further information, such as the percentage of the total payments to physicians that are based on performance, more detailed information on measurement methodology or complaints regarding MVPs rating system, may also be requested via e-mail.
